How to get ready the night before your interview.
4 steps, in this order. You do not learn answers by heart. You prepare true examples and tell them in your own words.
-
Choose 6 to 8 true examples
Take them from your CV. Choose examples that show different skills. New to work? Use real things from school or your studies.
-
Tell each example in 4 short parts
Use STAR (a way to answer in 4 short parts: the Situation, your Task, the Action you took, and the Result). Aim for about 90 seconds. Say “I”, not “we”.
-
Prepare the 5 questions you will almost surely be asked
1. Tell me about yourself.
2. Why do you want to work here?
3. Why are you leaving your current job? Or: why is there a gap in your CV?
4. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
5. What are your salary expectations? -
Plan the small things
Plan your route, and your taxi or petrol money. For a video interview, test the link an hour before. Have enough data. Set out your clothes. Prepare 2 or 3 questions to ask them.
Look here: the third step shows the 5 questions exactly as the PDF lists them. The PDF also explains a first phone call, tests like a typing test, and checks on your record and qualifications. It has 6 more questions that ask for a real example, like “Tell me about a time when”. It is 6 pages. It does not give you answers to learn by heart.
Get ready for your job interview in South Africa, step by step. It shows what happens here: a first phone call, the interview, tests and checks on your record.
It is a 6-page PDF (a document you read or print; it opens on most phones). You can read it on your phone.
Look here: this is 1 question from the PDF, with the first line of its advice, word for word.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
For the weakness, name a real one and what you are actively doing about it.
It helps you prepare for the day. Nothing we sell can promise you a job offer.
Is this for me?
- Your interview is soon, and you do not know what they will ask.
- It is your first interview, after matric or your studies.
- You have a panel interview (an interview where 2 to 4 people ask you questions). These are common in government, banks and big companies.

Other questions
My interview is in 2 hours. What do I read first?
Read the part called The STAR method. It shows how to answer in 4 short parts: the Situation, your Task, the Action you took, and the Result. Then read the 5 questions marked Almost certain. Prepare 3 true examples.
I have never worked. What examples can I use?
Take your examples from your CV. New to work? Use real things from school or your studies.
Is it for government jobs?
Yes. It explains panel interviews, which are common in government and banks. It also explains the checks after the interview, like checks on your criminal record and your qualifications.
What do I say about salary?
The guide shows how to find a fair salary range. Look at adverts for similar jobs, and at salary information on PNet and Careers24. Then give a range (a lowest and a highest amount), not one number.
My interview is by phone or video. Does it help?
Yes. It has a short checklist. Open the video call link they sent you an hour before, to test it. Charge your phone, and have enough data. Is load shedding planned at that time? Say so when you reply to the invitation, and ask to move the time.
The PDF talks about files 09, 10 and 15. Do I get them?
No. You can use this guide without them. File 09 is in Better words for your CV. File 10 is a tracker (a table where you write down every job you apply for). It is in Track and follow up. File 15 has the thank-you message. It is in Messages for after you apply. All 3 are in the complete system.
The picture and the PDF cover say Interview Preparation, the older name. It is the same guide. The PDF shows blessingm.co.za. The PDF and this shop are both from Blessing M Digital. This shop is blessingmdigital.co.za.
