Drawing: a man at a bus stop looks at his phone. No new emails; his application was sent 14 days ago. Two weeks. Still no reply? Message 2 is ready. Change a few words, send.
Copy. Change. Send. 1. Copy message 2 from the PDF. 2. Change the words in [brackets] to your own, like the job title and the date. 3. Send it once. Still no reply? Stop, and apply for the next job.

You applied for a job and heard nothing. Or they invited you to an interview, said no, or offered you the job. These 8 short messages tell you what to write, and on which day to send it.

When to send each of the 8 messages: 3 to 5 working days after you apply, 10 to 14 working days after, within a few hours of an interview invite, straight away to move an interview, within 24 hours to say thank you, after their answer date, after a no if you want to, and as soon as you get an offer.

It is normal to hear nothing. Many employers cannot reply to everyone. A follow-up message (a short, polite message to the employer after you apply) sometimes helps.

All 8 messages are in one PDF (a document you read or print; it opens on most phones). Working days are Monday to Friday, not public holidays.

3 to 5 working daysYou applied by email. You got no reply, not even an automatic email to say they got it. Send message 1 to ask if they got your application.
10 to 14 working daysStill no reply, or the closing date has passed. Send message 2 to follow up.
Within a few hoursThey invite you to an interview. Send message 3 to say yes.
Straight awayYou really cannot go at that time. Send message 4 to ask for another time.
Within 24 hoursYou had the interview. Send message 5 to say thank you.
After the date they gaveThey said when you would hear, and that day has passed. No date? Wait 7 to 10 working days. Then send message 6 to ask for news.
When they say noYou did not get the job. You can send message 7 to thank them. Sometimes a company contacts you later about another job.
Straight awayThey offer you the job. Send message 8 to ask for time to think.

The most important ruleFollow up once, then leave it. Message 1 only asks if they got your application. Message 2 is your one follow-up. Still no reply after message 2? Stop, and apply for the next job.

Look here: this is message 1, exactly as it is in the PDF. Notice the words in [square brackets] (these mark example words; type your own words over them before you send).

Subject: Application received? — [Job Title], [Reference Number if any]

Good day [Name / Hiring Team],

I applied for the [Job Title] position on [date] and wanted to confirm my application was received successfully.

I remain very interested in the role and am happy to provide any further information you may need.

Kind regards,
[Your Name] | [Phone] | [Email]

In short, it says: I applied on this date. Did you get my application? I still want this job.

The Subject is the title line of your email. A / sign means choose one: write the person's name, or write Hiring Team.

Other questions

Will the employer reply to me?

Nobody can promise a reply. A short, polite message sometimes helps. Still no reply after message 2? Stop, and apply for the next job.

Will my message sound rude?

Each message is short, polite and professional. The PDF says one message shows you are interested. Three messages can make you look difficult to work with.

Can I send it on WhatsApp?

Only if the employer messaged you there first, or the advert gave a WhatsApp number. Write in full sentences. It is still a work message.

Where and when do I send it?

If you applied by email, reply to that same email. Did you apply on PNet, Careers24 or a company website? Then send it there, if the site lets you send messages. If it does not, do not look for someone's private email address. Send it on a weekday morning, from Tuesday to Thursday if you can. Never send a follow-up the day after you apply.

Do I need an email address?

Yes. We send the download link to your email address. Most of these messages are also sent by email. You can make a free email address on your phone, for example with Gmail.

The PDF talks about a tracker. Do I get it?

No. You can use the messages without it. The tracker is in Track and follow up and in the complete system.

The PDF shows blessingm.co.za. The PDF and this shop are both from Blessing M Digital. This shop is blessingmdigital.co.za.
