Drawing: a woman at a library table, thinking. Stuck on what to write? Follow the pattern. Weak: Worked on the till. Stronger: Served an average of 50 customers per shift at the till, with a balanced till at every cash-up.
Build one strong CV line. Answer 4 questions: what you did, for who or what, how you did it, and what happened. Example from the guide: Managed the front-office diary for a 12-person team using Outlook and a shared calendar system, without a single double-booking in over a year.

Your CV says what your job was. Show what you did.

An employer wants to know what you will do for them. A list of duties does not show that. Here is one line, made stronger with the guide.

Before: it says what the job was

Handled admin duties in the office.

After: it says what you did, and the result

Managed the front-office diary for a 12-person team, coordinating an average of 15 meetings per week without a double-booking.

  1. What you did

What did you do? Start with a doing word, like Managed or Served.

    Managed

  2. For who or what

Who or what was it for? How many people or things?

    the front-office diary for a 12-person team

  3. How you did it

How did you do it, or what did you use?

This line does not say how. That is fine. The guide says 3 of the 4 parts is usually enough.

  4. What happened

What happened because you did it? Use a real number if you have one.

    without a double-booking

Look here: the front-office diary is the list of meetings for the office. The new line says how many people (12) and how many meetings each week (15). It also gives the result: no double-bookings (when 2 meetings are booked for the same time). A manager could check every part.

This line is 1 of 12 examples in the Achievement Guide, from first jobs to shop and office work. The guide also shows 9 honest ways to find a real number. It says: never make up a number.

3 guides to help you choose the words for the CV you already have. You can read them on your phone.

Read the first line under your last job. Does it only say what your job was? Or does it say what you did, and what happened because of it?

The Achievement Guide shows you how to write what you did, and the result. No job yet? It has examples from school and university.

The examples use South African work and words, like a till cash-up and Grade 12. You get 3 guides. Each one is a PDF (a document you read or print; it opens on most phones). There is no Word CV in this one.

One guide is about ATS (computer software some companies use to sort and search CVs). It shows how to lay out your CV on the page. Nobody can promise ATS will read your CV correctly. The guide shows a 2-minute check you can do yourself.

Look here: this is 1 of the 4 lines for shop work (Retail). “Served an average of [X] customers per shift, with a balanced till at every cash-up”. You change [X] to your own true number. There are 48 lines like this, 4 for each kind of work.

A computer may read your CV first. With a simple, one-column layout, the software saves your name, job and dates in the right place. With a busy layout, details can land in the wrong place or go missing. A person still reads your CV.
The 12 kinds of work in the Sector Content Library: admin and office support, retail, customer service, finance and accounting, sales, marketing, IT and technical support, logistics and warehouse, healthcare support, education and training, hospitality and tourism, general work and trades.

  • You are helping someone in your family with their CV.

What do I need to use it?

Read it on your phone or print it.Only the 2-minute check in the ATS Guide needs a computer, like one at a library or an internet café. The 3 files are about 185 KB together. That is less than 1 MB of data.

How do I get it after I pay?Right after you pay, we email you a download link. Tap it to save the files to your phone or computer. The email goes to the email address you type when you pay. The link also shows on the screen after you pay.

How can I pay?Use a Visa or Mastercard bank card. No card? Pay straight from your bank account with Instant EFT (on Payfast) or Ozow (on Paystack).

If a file will not open, you get your money back. Email hello@blessingmdigital.co.za. A person replies in one to two business days.

Other questions

Does it write my CV for me?

No. You write your own true words. The guides show you how, with examples.

I have no numbers to add. What can I do?

The Achievement Guide shows 9 honest ways to find a number. For example: how many customers you helped each day. Look in old payslips, rosters, WhatsApp work groups or your diary. A clear result with no number is still better than a list of duties.

Which kinds of work are in it?

There are 12:

  • Administration and office support
  • Retail (shop work)
  • Customer service and call centre
  • Finance and accounting support
  • Sales and business development
  • Marketing and communications
  • IT (computers) and technical support
  • Logistics, warehouse and supply chain (moving and storing goods)
  • Healthcare support
  • Education and training
  • Hospitality and tourism (hotels, restaurants, lodges)
  • General worker, operations and trades

If yours is not there, use the nearest one.

Can I copy the example lines?

Please do not. They describe other people’s work. Change them to your own true words. The guides say this too.

One guide talks about templates. Do I get them?

No. The templates the ATS Guide talks about are in the CV template and the complete system. You can use the guides with the CV you have now.

Will this get me a job?

Nobody can promise you a job, an interview or a reply. The guides help you write clear, true words about your work.

The PDFs show blessingm.co.za. The PDFs and this shop are both from Blessing M Digital. This shop is blessingmdigital.co.za.
